Life Legacy


Russell J. Hébert of Pensacola passed away in his home January 23, 2009 at the age of 87. Russell was born September 14, 1921 in Loreauville, Louisiana, to Sidney and Corrine Hébert. Russell was most proud of his country and his military service, which began when he entered the U. S. Navy in 1939 at the age of 18. His twenty-one year Naval career included active duty battleship service in the Pacific theater during WWII. He also served in a variety of roles during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1960. Upon retirement from the Navy, Russell entered the real estate business and eventually built his own, Suburban Realty, which served the Pensacola area for 25 years, retiring in 1995. After his second retirement his favorite place was home where he enjoyed his home, his family and his hobbies. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph Hébert and sister Shirley LeJeune. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Cathy; children Susan Hébert, Paul Hébert (Heidi), Julie Kennedy, Maurice Hébert and Andy Knowles; grandchildren Christopher Plaisance, Natalie Plaisance, Leslie New, Georgia Hébert, Ben Kennedy, Paige Rice and Ryan Hébert; sisters Dot Liberto and Connie Rice; brothers Roy and Ray Hébert; many nieces and nephews and special family friend Melinda Townsend. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Boulevard, Pensacola. Rev. Jack Giddens will officiate. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. The family sincerely wishes to thank the caring physicians and nurses who took care of Russell and the Angels at Covenant Hospice for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504. HARPER-M0RRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
