Obituary

AGCM Douglas M. Ales, USN (Ret.) was born on July 23, 1935 in Buffalo, NY and passed away after battling ALS on Thursday, December 4, 2014 with his sons by his side. Doug was the devoted husband of Mary Fraser Ales for 45 wonderful years and a loving father to six sons. Doug retired from the US Navy after honorably serving our nation for 30 years. He was very proud of his service and loved telling stories about his numerous duty stations around the world. Doug was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he was a long-standing member of the church choir. As a member of the Pensacola Jazz Society, he was passionate about music and an avid supporter of many local artists. His wife, Mary Fraser Ales and his son, Douglas "D.J" preceded Doug in death. He is survived by five sons; Christopher and wife Beverly, Michael and wife Esther, John and wife Lisa, Patrick and wife Kris, Matthew and wife Barbara; and Kim Ales Emmanuel along with 2 brothers, David Aubry and Jae Allison. Doug was the ultimate grandpa to 15 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5-7pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with a Rosary prayed at 5pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am Friday, December 12, 2014 at St Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Doug Halsema, celebrant and Msgr. Michael Reed, co-celebrant. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Navy honors at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. The Ales family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Covenant Hospice Palliative Care Unit at West Florida Hospital.
