Obituary

Alan Campbell Sheppard, 92, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014. Mr. Sheppard was a native of Pensacola, FL and the last surviving child of Oscar Nixon Sheppard and Eva Gonzalez Sheppard. He was a real estate lawyer and a leader in the community, having been active in numerous civic and religious organizations including the Lions Club, the Pensacola Arts Council, the Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club and the Audubon Society. Mr. Sheppard was a Past Commodore of the Pensacola Yacht Club and was the oldest living Past Commodore of the Gulf Yachting Association. Mr. Sheppard was a 1939 graduate of Pensacola High School and studied law through LaSalle Extension University while serving in the US Army Air Corps in India, Burma and China during WWII. He passed the Florida Bar in 1947 and was an active member of the Bar for over 60 years. Mr. Sheppard was a senior partner in the firm of Emmanuel, Sheppard and Condon. He had a lifelong love of birding, sailing and the outdoors which began on his journey to Eagle Scout. In addition, he was an avid dancer and lover of music. Mr. Sheppard enjoyed being a member of various dance organizations and Krewes, dancing until the last few months of his life. More than anything, Alan identified himself as a devout Roman Catholic whose faith influenced every aspect of his life. He is preceded in death by his wives, Elaine Sigur Sheppard and Eileen Thompson Sheppard. Survivors include his daughters, Martha Sheppard Inskeep (Carl) of Houston, TX and Monica Sheppard Stillwagon (David) of Townsend, TN; sons, Francis H. Sheppard (Lisa) of Winter Park, FL and Alan Campbell Sheppard, Jr. also of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren, Adrienne Inskeep, Amanda Inskeep, Jon Schenke, Sarah Schenke, Andrew Sheppard, Elyse Sheppard, Alan Sheppard III and Scott Sheppard; great granddaughter, Ingrid Inskeep Van Slyke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5-7pm Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Thursday, February 13, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Doug Halsema celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Alan Campbell McMillan, David Stillwagon, Carl Inskeep, V. Paul Bruno, Jr., Jon Schenke and Roland E. Leucht, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 1 N. "C" St., Pensacola, FL 32502 or to the Audubon Society, P.O. Box 17484, Pensacola, FL 32522.
