Dr. Albert V. Drlicka, 90, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016. Dr. Drlicka was born on March 9, 1926 in Piestany, Czechoslovakia to Josef and Maria Sviecka Drlicka the 10th of 11 children.
Dr. D graduated from the University of Paris in1954 with his medical degree and started his internship in Paris. He completed his internship in New York City and residence in Pathology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago. He was an instructor in the Pathology Department at Chicago Medical School and practiced medicine for 38 years at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. Dr. D was President of the medical staff at University Hospital in 1968, President of the medical staff at Baptist Hospital in 1976 and on the Executive Committee at Gulf Breeze Hospital from 1977-1978,He was active in many medical association.
He was one of the founding members of the Greater Pensacola Tennis Association, winning many tournaments, a member of the Pensacola Ski Club and was called Dr. Death on the Black Diamonds by the Powder Pounders. Dr. D was fluent in many languages he liked the symphony, poetry, history and politics. He loved every type of water sports, traveling, golf, gardening, tennis, bridge and dancing.
Dr. Drlicka leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia; sons, Phillip (Kristin), Michael and Erick; step-sons, Ronnie (Donna), Eric (Cari) and Todd (Shannon) Shaw; grandchildren, Luc (Yelena), Andrea, Stephanie, Kathryn, Amee and Michael Drlicka, Jr., Lauren Chisenall (Joe), Brandon, Jacqueline, Austin, Lindsey, Taylor and Courtney Shaw; great grandchildren, Torrin and Adrian Heinrichs; nephew, Jimmy Maly.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Hugh Hamilton and Rev. Frank Beall officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be made to the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra or Trinity Presbyterian Learning Center.
