Alice Ann Petticrew Leonard, 89, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, October 1, 2012. Born September 5, 1923 in Springfield, OH to Stanley Scott (Sr.) and Alice Elizabeth Petticrew. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1945. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She taught school in Coshocton, OH before coming to Pensacola. She came to Pensacola and taught PE at Blount Junior High and at Pensacola High School. She married Oliver C. Leonard in 1950. She joined the First Presbyterian Church not long after arriving in Pensacola and became very active in church activities which she continued to do all throughout her life. She chaired many committees in the church including Day Care Board, Service Committee, Membership, vice moderator for Women of the Church, etc. She was elected to the session and served for several terms throughout her time in the church. She was chairman of the western district of the Presbytery for several years. She was elected to serve on the Presbytery Council and the Presbytery Outreach Committee as well as elected to be a Presbytery delegate to the synod meetings in Miami. She received an honorary life membership in May of 1992 from the Presbytery Women of the church. She was on the board of the First Presbyterian Church Day Care Center (now known as the Child Discovery Center) and was chairman of that committee several times. She also helped set up the Resale Shop that helps support the Child Discovery Center. Mrs. Leonard also worked on other committees in the community. She served many years on the Salvation Army Board and was on the Junior Service League working to make it the Junior League of Pensacola. She served in many capacities in the Jr. League of Pensacola and continued to serve later as a sustainer. She was involved in many Fiesta and Mardi Gras activities, such as Les Harlequins, Merry Makers and served as president of those organizations. She was also in the Dental Auxiliary and served as its president. She was a member of Magnolia's and White Linen and was an avid symphony fan. She also loved the opera and attended them regularly in Atlanta as well as here in town. She loved and attended many local plays and productions. And most of all she enjoyed the beach. She organized and set up many wonderful family reunions out there. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Oliver C. Leonard; sisters, Jean Hockman of Cincinnati, OH and Janis Coombs of Worthington, OH; as well as her granddaughter, Amy Rosmond Leonard of Orlando, FL. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Stichweh (Larry) of Pensacola; sons, Oliver Charles Leonard, Jr. of Orlando, FL and Alan Westley Leonard of Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Jeremiah Joyner (Christine) of Eureka, CA, Nate Joyner (Tracy) of Los Angeles, CA, Alex Leonard and Alaina Leonard of Orlando, FL; brothers, Stanley S. Petticrew, Jr. (Dorothea) of Springfield, OH, Richard Petticrew (Sue) of Chandler, AZ; brother-in-law, Andy Leonard of Slidell, LA; great grandchildren, Celeste Joyner, Sloane Joyner and Zoe Joyner. Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm Sunday, October 7, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 33 E. Gregory St., Pensacola, FL with Rev. Frank Beall officiating. There will be a reception to follow the service.
