Alvin M. Bengtson, 84, of Cantonment, FL passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Al grew up and lived his life in the Pensacola area. He graduated from Tate High School in 1951 and attended Pensacola Junior College. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Al worked his entire career with Monsanto, and retired from Solutia in 1985.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Cora Jane Powell Bengtson.
Al is survived by the love of his life, Dinah of 34 years. He is also survived by five children; Donna Bengtson, Alan Bengtson, Debbie Lanton, Denise Gipson and John Morrow. Al had 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren with an additional great grandchild due in February.
Al was a member of the First Baptist Church and his Sunday morning Bible study class "Warm Hearts". On Wednesday nights, Al helped serve supper at the church for over 30 years. Al and Dinah are members of the Leisure Timers with whom they regularly met and traveled with.
Visitation will be at 10:00am Thursday, December 1, 2016 with Memorial services beginning at 11:00am in the Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola with Dr. Barry Howard officiating.
Al's body will be donated to the University of South Alabama School of Medicine, Anatomical Board, for medical research.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan Hands at First Baptist Church or to Emerald Coast Hospice.
Special thanks are given to the staff at Sabal House and Emerald Coast Hospice.
