Amelia "Ruth" Garner Cox, age 90, a resident of the Haven of Our Lady of Peace, Pensacola and a former longtime resident of Stockton and Robertsdale, AL passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
Ruth was born in 1926 on a freezing cold morning in Heiberger, AL when a glass of water was found frozen on the mantle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Conrad Clifton Garner and Amelia Emma Alice Auvil Garner making many friends and moving many places as stewards of the Methodist Ministry. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Young Ausphera Cox, Jr.
Wearing many hats, Ruth could be found milking cows on their family dairy farm in Stockton, growing, cutting and arranging flowers for church, working at her father-in-law's store, Cox Mercantile, owning and operating Cox Café, driving a school bus, handling the night shift of a Doctor's and Nurse's switchboard telephone directory in Pensacola and stitching handmade clothing for her family. Ruth was an ideal role model and would always be found sharing the warmest of southern hospitality and love.
She was an extra ordinary daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and granny.
She is survived by a son, Morton Ausphera Cox (Kathy) of Stockton; two daughters, Patricia Cox Leidner (Robert) of Pensacola and Ame Cox Wilters (Bob) of Foley; 7 grandchildren, Mark Leidner (Halli), Chad Leidner (Alicia), Corry Cox (Erika), Patrick Cox (Kendall), Meggan Cox, Blaire Wilters Baxter (Christopher) and Stone Wilters; also one sister, Elaine Garner Coghlan. She was blessed with 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola. Additional visitation will be held at 10am on Monday, February 1, 2016 with a Funeral service following at 11am at the Stockton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Stockton Memorial Cemetery. Special family friends, Rev. George Sedberry and Rev. Floyd Enfinger, Sr. will officate.
Ruth's 5 grandsons and grand son-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
