IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann W.
Clark
April 27, 1926 – September 26, 2022
Ann was born on April 27, 1926, in Norton, VA, to William and Ethel (White) Wassum. She was the oldest of three other siblings: Carlton and Paul Wassum and Sue Wassum (Sutphin). On May 9, 1947, Ann Wassum and Paul Bruce Clark were married at Beckley Presbyterian Church, and in the years that followed, the couple had two children: Bruce James Clark, April 30, 1949, and Paula Ann Clark (Smith), Jan. 5, 1952.
Because Paul was called back into service for the Korean War, in 1952, Ann moved with her children to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, to await her husband's return. In 1959, the family moved to Pensacola, FL, and joined McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1960, where they became very involved in ministry for over 50 years. Ann served in many positions within the Women in the Church as a leader and teacher and Paul served as a Deacon and Elder. Their commitment here was a reflection of their deep faith in and love for Jesus Christ. They had each professed faith in Christ's finished work on their behalf and were so grateful for the consistent preaching and teaching of God's Word that they enjoyed through the years at McIlwain.
Ann was a consummate homemaker and found great joy caring for her family, providing a home of beauty, order, peace, and love. An excellent seamstress, she made all of Paula's and her clothing as well as Paul's shirts. She made draperies, curtains, bedspreads, re-upholstered and refinished furniture. The Clark home was always open for hospitality and people of all ages found a loving reception there. Many a teenager grabbed a coke, and the Charley Chips can and made themselves at home. "Big Red and Silver Fox," as they were known, fed mouths and encouraged many a soul who passed their way.
In 1974, Paul retired from Southern Prestressed Concrete and he and Ann opened a plumbing parts supply company, Champion of Pensacola. They continued to operate the business until 1990 when they officially retired.
They were blessed with 5 granddaughters: Lori Clark Fullerton (Glen), Lisa Clark Oaks (Johnathan), Sara Clark Conner (John), Tesa Smith Sansbury (Tim), and Erin Smith Dice (John).
On December 11, 1997, Paul died after battling cancer for 9 months. Ann continued to be involved in McIlwain and was a special blessing to her family: children, Bruce (Kayren) Clark and Paula (Dirk) Smith, to her granddaughters and their spouses and eventually to her 13 great-grandchildren: Anna, Emily, and Paige Sansbury; Harrison, Kimberley, and Jackson Fullerton; Piper, Clark, and Lacey Conner; Paul and Olivia Oaks; Jack and Emma Dice.
In February 2022, Ann moved to Pompano Beach, FL, so that her daughter could help care for her increasing physical needs. On September 26, 2022, aged 96, Ann Clark slipped peacefully away to Glory with her Savior.
Visitation will be held 1:00pm until a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00pm Saturday, November 5, 2022, at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church. Private family interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, FL.
