Ann Knight Owens, age 79, of Pensacola FL, died at 10:00 pm, September 22, 2010 at Baptist Manor after a struggle with several medical conditions, including Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Furman, AL on September 22, 1931 to the late Malcolm Leigh Knight and Gladys Watson Knight, both also originally of Furman, AL. Ann attended Moore Academy in Pineapple AL., and graduated from Huntington College in Montgomery AL. with a BA in History and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University with a MA in Education. She moved to Pensacola in 1954 and soon after began a long teaching career with the Escambia County School District, spending 30 years teaching History and chairing the Social Studies Departments at Pensacola High School and Pine Forest High School. Ann was a long term member of Christ Episcopal Church and was active in the Altar Guild. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Howard Owens, a son, Tom Owens, and 3 grandchildren, Thomas, Kate and Elizabeth, all of Pensacola FL. Ann loved to travel, and enjoyed visiting many of the places and landmarks she taught students of over her career. She also was an avid sports fan, and a good sport, logging a great deal of time in parks and stadiums across the country with Howard and Tom, ranging from Bill Bond Baseball to the University of Alabama. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 27th, 2010 at Christ Episcopal Church in Pensacola FL, with the Rev. C. Neal Goldsborough officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ann Knight Owens Memorial fund at the Episcopal Day School of Christ Church, 223 N. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32502. The family would like to offer it's thanks to the staff of Baptist Manor, which provided excellent and gentle care for Ann throughout her time there.
