Annie Marie Williams

Starts at 11:00 am (Central time)
Annie Marie Williams Warren, 87, of Pensacola, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Pensacola, FL. Marie was born in Albertville, Alabama, to the late Arthur B. and Margie Florence Bearden Williams on March 29, 1938.
Around the age of eighteen months, it was discovered that she was completely blind in her left eye. However, this challenge would not deter her in her quest to receive an education. She attended Snead State Community College and Jacksonville State University, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. She went on to a lengthy career as a beloved middle school English teacher at Huntsville Middle School, where she was the first female teacher to wear pants. She was introduced to Glenn Edward Warren by two of their best friends, and he became the love of her life. They moved to Huntsville and bought their house on Gill Street, which they stayed in until retiring to Pensacola, where their daughter Jill lives, in 1999. They were active and dedicated grandparents who were truly adored by their grandchildren. Marie’s love of baking was especially appreciated by her grandchildren, as there were no limits on sugar when in her care. Always the caregiver, Marie cared for Glenn until his death from Parkinson's complications in 2008 and then her mother until her death in 2009. When she suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2019, she made a near-miraculous recovery. She moved into Summer Vista Assisted Living where she made new friends and continued to amaze her family with her iron will and independence. She loved to shop a sale, eat at Cracker Barrel, and talk on the phone, often to friends and family still in Huntsville. Marie possessed a quick wit, an occasionally inappropriate sense of humor, and an ability to empathize with anyone. She felt and loved deeply. She was a loving wife, driven teacher, supportive mother, adoring grandmother, and dedicated friend.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her grandson, Tom Barkley II; son-in-law, Tommy Barkley; along with many of her lifelong friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Barkley, of Guntersville; her daughter, Jill (Grover) Robinson, of Pensacola; granddaughter, Francy (Clint) Kirkland; grandson, Grover (Beka) Robinson V; granddaughter, Anna Lowrey Robinson; great-granddaughter, Caroline Barkley; and great-grandsons Brandon, Cole Kirkland and Trey Barkley; her brother, Ted Williams; her niece, Kim Williams Foulk; her nephew, Jamey Williams; her lifelong best friend, Una Battles; and many great nieces and nephews.
Marie and Glenn will be interred together in Memory Hill Cemetery in Albertville in a graveside service at 11:00am on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Her family and friends will wear color rather than black as a final tribute to her love of color.
