Obituary

Arnold Ray "Skip" Kunselman, CPO, USN (ret.), 82 of Pensacola died Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

An only child, Arnold Ray "Skip" Kunselman was born on July 19, 1935 in Mayport, PA, to Clyde Ervin Kunselman and Iva Almeda Kunselman who both preceded him in death.

In 1953, Skip graduated from Redbank Valley High School in New Bethlehem, PA, and was employed by the Leader-Vindicator and the New Bethlehem Telephone Company. He attended Napa Junior College in California, the University of Maryland (Overseas Extension) and graduated from Pensacola Junior College with degrees in Business Management and Postal Management.

In 1954, Skip enlisted in the U.S. Navy and completed basic training and Class A School in Bainbridge, MD. During his Naval career, he was stationed at the Naval Security Agency at Fort Meade, MD, the Naval Communications Station in Cheltenham, MD, the NSGA Skaggs Island, CA, and the NCTC in Pensacola, FL. Additional overseas tours of duty include Japan, Okinawa, and Turkey. One of the highlights of his Naval career was being part of the debriefing team for the USS Pueblo crew members. He served as an Instructor at both Skaggs Island, CA and NCTC Pensacola. Upon his retirement in 1973 at NCTC Corry Station, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the Naval Security Group Command.

In 1974, Skip was hired as a Postal Clerk at the main Post Office in Pensacola, FL. He was promoted to Examinations Specialist and later promoted to Express Mail Manager until his retirement in October 1992.

He was active at the East Brent Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Department Director for several Sunday School Departments. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors and Financial Officer at Pensacola Federal Credit Union for 30 years. Skip loved his family and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing at their camp on the Alabama River.

Skip is survived by his wife, Dolly Mae Kunselman of North Freedom, PA, whom he married in August 1955; his three children, John Michael Kunselman, Robin Lynn Bullock (David), and Kimberly Ann Lassiter (Barry); eight grandchildren, Adam (Joey), Joshua, Rachel (Scott), Taylor, Rick, Aubrey (Nick), Amanda (David), and Sara (Drew); as well as five great-grandchildren, Leland, Barrett, Carson, Stella, and Scarlett.

Visitation will be 8:30am until the Funeral Service beginning at 9:30am Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
