Arthur H. Blankenbeck
March 14, 1947 - February 25, 2021
Harry Blankenbeck passed away at his home, February 25, 2021. He was doing one of the things he enjoyed best, relaxing in the sunshine.
Harry was born on March 14, 1947 in Miami, Florida to Arthur and Edith Blankenbeck, the second of 5 children. He and his family later moved to Greenville, AL and then Pensacola, Fl where he attended Brentwood Middle School and J.M. Tate High school.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966, following in his father's footsteps. After completing basic training, at Camp Lejeune, NC he served in Vietnam and Japan. Upon returning to the United States, he was deployed to MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
After returning to Pensacola he was employed by Champion International and retired after 32 years.
Upon retirement, Harry and his wife, Teresa, traveled extensively throughout the United States, in their motorhome. He never met a stranger, always making friends along the way. He had a passion for anything related to the water; boating, sailing or just floating in Little Sabine. His other hobbies included woodworking, pottery and painting. He was also known as quite the handyman...if it was broken he could fix it.
Harry was active in many social and community activities such as; building the Playhouse for the annual American Cancer Society auction, reviving the Mardi Gras Celebration with the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, Past President Krewe of Lafitte, Past President Karnival Kavaliers, member of the Masonic Lodge; Cantonment, Fl, Hadji Shrine Temple, Veterans of Foreign Wars, several dance clubs and more recently the Moose Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Johnson Blankenbeck and Edith (Burt) Blankenbeck, brothers Douglas Blankenbeck, Henry "Johnny" Blankenbeck and Rodney Cate. His wife, Teresa Blankenbeck, passed away March 1, 2021 in a local nursing home. He is survived by his daughter, Stacy (Blankenbeck) Brown, son-in-law, Carter Brown, beloved grandchildren, Arthur Augustus "Gus" Brown and Edith Grace Brown; all of Pensacola, his sister, Gail Garrand of Gahanna, OH, Jeri (Worley) Blankenbeck; the mother of his daughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Harry and Teresa's life will be held at the Pensacola Yacht Club on Tuesday, March 9th from 4-6pm. Memorials in Harry's Honor may be made to Heroes Among Us, 98 Weed St., Pensacola, FL 32514.
