Audrey S. Morrison, 71, of Pensacola, FL passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 29, 2022, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Audrey was born on March 8, 1951, and grew up, in Harlan County, KY. She was the proud daughter of a coal-mining father and a devoted mother. At an early age, she developed an ethic that hard work is intrinsically virtuous and exhibited that work ethic throughout her life. Gerald Morrison found that virtuous woman in Audrey. He fell in love with her, and they remained married for 42 years. Audrey was the loving and dedicated mother to three children for whom she would sacrifice anything.
After moving to Pensacola, Audrey and her husband Gerald owned and operated a professional cleaning business. Audrey graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in accounting. She passed the CPA exam and became licensed as a certified public accountant in Florida.
Upon beginning her professional career in accounting, Audrey was employed with the Florida Auditor General and later with a CPA firm. She served in the administration at Pensacola State College as Internal Auditor, and later Comptroller. She was also an active member of several professional organizations and committees. During her professional and teaching career, Audrey volunteered with several civic and nonprofit organizations. She engaged actively in numerous activities related to the Pensacola State College Foundation.
After years in professional accounting and college administration, Audrey began a career in higher education. She served as a Professor in the Business Department of Pensacola State College and taught various accounting and business courses.
Audrey and her husband Gerald were involved in the early organization and development of Charity Chapel, an interdenominational Christian church, and later served at Gulf Coast Christian Church. For over 25 years, Audrey served actively on various committees at East Hill Baptist Church, notably the finance committee, before moving her church membership to First Baptist Church Pensacola.
Audrey is preceded in death by her father and mother, Quinton and Hattie Saylor; her brother and sister, Thomas and Phyllis Saylor; her daughter, Megan Lindsey Morrison; and her loving husband, Gerald Morrison.
She is survived by her children, Micah Morrison of Pensacola, Mercer Morrison of New York, NY, and Pamela O'Rear (Louis) of Pensacola; two grandchildren, Connor and Matthew O'Rear (Ashley); one great-granddaughter, Rylee; her sister-in-law, Linda Saylor and her children; dog Tucker; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the funeral service to begin at 2:00pm Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be beloved members of Audrey's family.
