Barbara Jane
Brooks
January 1, 1937 – April 29, 2026
Barbara Jane Brooks, 89, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on January 1, 1937, in Benton, AR, to Elsie and Delbert Newcomb. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. Barbara worked for many years as a financial secretary for Gateway Church of Christ in Pensacola and she enjoyed serving her church community on a personal level. During her early years, she was employed at GSRI and Hobart Equipment and Services in New Iberia, LA. She was known for her strong work ethic and willingness to help others.
She found joy in cooking meals and baking for her family, including Chicken Noodle Soup and Enchiladas to name a few. If you were fortunate to enjoy one of her meals, then you were also treated to a delicious homemade dessert. While she had several favorite recipes, one of her best-known desserts, that only she could make, was her peanut brittle. Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed going to antique shops and markets with her husband and finding treasures of years past. She enjoyed the history of antiques and heirlooms. She loved traveling to Arkansas, Georgia, and Virginia to visit family and friends. Her home was always open, and her advice was always given with love.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Capt. Jerry R. Brooks; her children, Mitchell K. Miguez (Michelle), RADM Marc J. Miguez (Mary), Jennifer Brooks Stoute (Steven), Jeri Ann Russo, and Lisa Patburg (Sloan); and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a beloved pet parent to her Shih Tzu, Jiggs, who brought her daily joy and love.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carolyn Ronsonet; her brother, Butch Newcomb; her former spouse, Ray Miguez; and her beloved pets, Hobo and Jiggs.
A visitation will be held 11:00am until a memorial service begins at 12:00noon Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Jude or ASPCA.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Mary Miguez and Vitas Hospice Care for their loving and compassionate care give to Mrs. Brooks and her family.
