IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Bailey
Graves
January 16, 1938 – October 20, 2022
The seventh child of Andrew Jackson Bailey and Louise Powell Bailey, Barbara was born into the bosom of a robust and loving family in Beulah, FL. Known as Honey to her family and devoted group of worldwide friends, she departed this earthly plane on Thursday, October 20, 2022.
Barbara grew up in the country on a 20-acre farm outside Pensacola, FL, with an extended family, cats, dogs, horses, chickens, cows, goats, and wildlife. She hiked the woods, walked in the streams, picked violets, gathered wild grapes, and loved nature. Always an animal caregiver, Barbara loved Persian cats. She recalled that she was given a goat and cart to ride in with her brother, Wayne, when she was very young.
In her youth, she was always a leader and an artist. Barbara drew beautiful pencil and charcoal pictures and entertained her siblings and devoted nephews by drawing pictures in the sand and telling stories as she drew. She also used to tell tales when she was young of hearing bobcats jump fences at night and other scary panther stories.
Barbara graduated from J.M. Tate High School in Gonzalez, FL, where she was voted Senior Class Most Attractive and was an attendant at the Senior Homecoming Court. Later, Barbara graduated from UWF with a BA and a MS in counseling. Barbara was a dynamo and loving caregiver to her aging mother during these times. She was a lifelong advisor to her family and friends, helping, encouraging, and reaching out tirelessly. She was our touchstone and our backbone.
Barbara had a loving family with two wonderful sons, whom she reared in Gulf Breeze, FL. There she created beautiful homes and spent time boating, fishing, swimming, and helping with the family hunting camp in Alabama. Her homes always reflected her love of art and design, always beautiful and welcoming. She had homes in Gulf Breeze as well as Pensacola Beach, a historic East Hill home and Pompano Beach condos on world class golf courses.
Her eldest son, Larry Hipsh, Jr. manifested one of the faithful and lasting joys of Barbara's long loving life, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; lots of them. She was so proud of her eldest son's accomplishments and his family. Barbara always loved being shown around his large projects and then bragging about his involvement during his career in the construction industry.
A worldwide and fearless traveler, Barbara would journey to the ends of the earth to be with her youngest son, Dale and celebrate the openings of his manifold hospitality projects worldwide, from Hong Kong and China to Hawaii, California, Bali, Korea, Singapore, The Bahamas, and Mississippi.
Her professional career included creative marketing with Loveman's Department Store in Birmingham and a successful real estate career in Pensacola. She also worked in marketing and sales with Seville Quarter in Pensacola and Church Street Station in Orlando. She later was a very respected member of the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino Host team for many years in Coconut Creek, FL.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson Bailey and Louise Powell Bailey; brothers, Grover Jackson Bailey, Sr., Ben Bailey, and Wayne Bailey; sisters, Jan Bailey Busbee and Alma Bailey Guedry; as well as her loving nephews, Ronald Busbee, Sr., Terry Busbee Sr., and Steve Busbee, and niece, Deborah Guedry Brothers.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry Hipsh Jr. and Beverly; her youngest son, Dale Hipsh; grandchildren, Larry Hipsh III, Brandy Hipsh Medley and Catherine Hipsh; great-grandchildren, Alexa Hipsh, Amelia Hipsh, Avery Hipsh, Aubrey Hipsh, Blakely Smith, Breelynn Smith, Campbell Hipsh and Cailey Hipsh; as well as her sisters, Bea Rivers, Myrtle Bailey, and Linda Snow (Bob); nieces and nephews, Sharon Sims, Brenda Seymour, Grover Bailey Jr., Charlene Leinbach, Kathleen Lovan, Andrew Bailey, Allen Bailey, Deborah Buxton, Wayne (Tony) Bailey Jr., and Christopher Snow.
