Barbara Jean Martin Hickman, age 85, of Gulf Breeze, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi, with a graveside service on Tuesday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 10, at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m.

Barbara was born in Flora, Mississippi, to the late Christopher Earl Martin and Addie Lucille Dumas Martin on November 11, 1933. She moved to Florida in 1961 and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Pensacola, since 1962. After retiring from Gulf Breeze High School she had volunteered at Gulf Breeze Hospital and in the History Room at FBC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother Maxwell Martin, her sister Bernell Wilkinson, and her brother Lamar Martin (on January 1).

She is survived by her children Bert Hickman of Chesapeake, VA, Marty Hickman of Gulf Breeze, and Beth Gardner (Jeff) of Theodore, AL; grandchildren Ali Gardner and Zac Gardner; siblings Elyse Greer of Brandon, MS, Rex Martin (Fran) of Pearl, MS, and Patricia Sills of Warner Robbins, GA; and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested that donations be made to the 2020 Projects at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
