Obituary

Barbara Nicodemus, age 59, was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on February 28, 2013 following a courageous 2 ½ year battle with cancer. Barbara was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to E.J. Palmer and Barbara Stella Rowe Palmer. Growing up with an Air Force father, Barbara had the opportunity to live in many places both domestic and international. She graduated from Bowie Senior High (Bowie, MD) and attended the University of South Florida and Florida International University in Miami. Having traveled the world through her father's career, Barbara became fluent in Spanish and was conversational in French and Portuguese. Barbara eventually moved to Houston, TX where she met the love of her life, Bob Nicodemus. She and Bob started and operated a successful business, Palmer Packaging, before retiring full-time to Pensacola in 2008. Barbara loved the beaches of Pensacola, boating, herbs and gardening, baking, quilting, mosaics and crafts of all types. A loving and generous person, she was known for her infectious smile and for delivering delicious homemade baked goods beautifully wrapped with her famous ribbons to her neighbors "just because." She loved to go to the Palafox Street Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings to find all sorts of "goodies" and she loved watching the Blue Angels fly while sitting in their boat. Barbara was a member of the Pensacola Quilters Guild, the Santa Rosa Yacht Club and was a 25 year member of the Herb Society of America and a member in Pensacola. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Robert "Bob" Nicodemus; father, E. J. Palmer and mother, Barbara Palmer of Melbourne, FL; brother, R. J. Palmer of Los Angeles, CA; her adorable dog, Buddy; and the many friends that were privileged to come to know her through the years. The family expresses their deepest appreciation to Dr. Robert Wenham (Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa), Dr. James Watkins and the oncology and nursing team at Sacred Heart Hospital, and the wonderful, caring team at the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence for the love and care shown Barbara throughout the past 2 ½ years. They would also like to thank the many friends for their love, devotion and prayers during this difficult journey. Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:00am Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice (Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Residence) or to a charity of your choice.
