Barbara "Ginger" Virginia Wessel, 70, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, May 1, 2017.

She is survived by her son; Michael Wessel (Heather)  of Reston, VA; daughter, Christine  Wessel (Jody Pearce) of San Clemente, CA and their son, Liam; daughter; Barbara Hobbs (Eric O'Neal) of Pensacola, FL and her son, Jeffrey; uncle, Dick  Barker (Gerry) of Pensacola; aunt, Carolyn Marshall of Nowra, Australia and nieces, Andrea Bell (Jeff) of Greenville, SC and Jennifer MacBride (Bill) of Miramar Beach, FL, as well as many extended Barker, Blythe, de Rocheblave, LeDew and Hubacher family members, and a host of long-time close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur Barker, II and Barbara Blythe Barker; her brother, Arthur Barker, III and sister, Marguerite "Peggy" Meek.

Ginger brought intelligence, insight, and a keen eye for grammar and punctuation errors to her work as an instructional designer. As an accomplished high school swimmer, she raced a Junior Olympics qualifying time in the 5000 meter freestyle. A long time fan of the NFL, and especially the San Diego Chargers, she would not likely approve of the team's plan to move to Los Angeles. She defied many odds in life, including on the slopes as a new but avid skier in her 50's. She especially enjoyed life in Pensacola - reading, relaxing on her deck watching dolphins swim by, and watching the lightning storms over the Gulf. Ginger's family and friends will remember her for her dry wit, sharp mind, resilience, hearty laugh and delectable cheesecakes.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the Memorial at 11:00am Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain David Stocker officiating.

Family suggests donations to American Cancer Society, usacancerfoundation.org in lieu of flowers .
