Mrs. Bennie Johnson, age 91 of Pensacola, FL passed away July 2, 2011. She was born December 15, 1919 in Quintette FL to John Manning Thomas and Neta Barrineau Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Walter Johnny Johnson, her parents and two brothers, John and Henry Thomas. She is survived by her son Phil (Jan) Johnson, daughter Pam (Dennis) Dugger and two grandchildren, Phillip and Kathryn Dugger. Bennie graduated from Tate High School in 1938 and completed her nurses training at the Old Sacred Heart Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Afterwards she worked at the Old Medical Center Clinic. In 1949 she married into the Navy life, living most of the time in Texas and California, and starting a family. After returning to Pensacola in the 1960's she worked in the OR at the then New Sacred Heart Hospital for several years. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and sew and put her cooking skills to good use as part of the Kitchen Crew at FUMC. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Pensacola. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 6 East Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501 or the charity of your choice.
