Obituary

Retired M/SGT Bernard J. Devoy born in Enfield IL January 18, 1936 affectionately known as "JERRY" died at home surrounded by family on Friday August 3, 2018.

He traveled the globe while enlisted in the USAF, to Korea, Vietnam, Newfoundland, Virginia, Texas, Hurlburt Field, Japan then retiring out of Eglin.

His second career was as an Instructor/Program Analyst for Contel in Amherst, VA taking early retirement when they were bought out by GTE. Wanting to return to the Florida panhandle he purchased Playground Linen Service of Fort Walton Beach and operated it until he just decided "I'm DONE". For a time he enjoyed his days with friends at Foxwood or Shoal River Country Club where he played a really inconsistent game of golf!  Mostly, he loved the view from his front porch sitting with Oksan sipping a glass of tea watching over his menagerie of farm animals in Crestview.

He was quite an athlete in his younger years he was a Pitcher for the USAF Fast Pitch Softball team as well as a variety of traveling teams. While in Japan the Japanese were so impressed by his abilities that their instructional handbook for fast pitch instruction features him as "the guy with the perfect form!" He was a quick witted, compassionate simple man that loved his family dearly. He will be sadly missed.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Lynn; parents, Daniel & Lucille (Berghoff) Devoy; brothers, Lum, Danny, Bill, Tommy and sister, Joan.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years and the center of his universe, Sandra Oksan Devoy; children, Craig Devoy, Loretta Sansom (Randall), Douglas Devoy (Patti); grandchildren, Ashley Cain (Trevor), R. Allan Sansom (Lindsay), Troy Devoy, Sandra Thomas (Benjamin), Whitney and Taylor Sansom; great grandchildren, Audrey, Sophia, Liam and Lilly Cain, Elenore Devoy, Ellison and Storie Thomas, Smith and Mattie Sansom; brothers, John Devoy (Roberta), Tony Devoy (Trisha); sisters, Dee Paolella, Mary Kelly, Rita Hitchins, and baby sister, Alice Young (Bill); lifelong friends, James and Scarlett Fisher of Baltimore MD.
