Betty Lou Chavis Barberi, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Betty was born in her home on 9th Ave Pensacola, FL on December 24, 1931. She was one of God's special gifts to the world on Christmas Eve. She was a lifetime Pensacola native, growing up in East Hill and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1950. She furthered her studies in clerical & office management at the business school downtown Pensacola. She began working at her father's appliance store in the office, then she worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company. Betty met the love of her life and married Louis P. Barberi, Jr., in 1953. Over the years she volunteered for many different organizations to contribute to her community, including March of Dimes, Cub Scouts, PTA, and her church.

In 1972 Louis & Betty together began a small business “Louis P. Barberi, Plumbing”. Betty managed the office while Louis managed the plumbing. They joined the FL Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors Association and Betty was very active in the Women’s Auxiliary from 1978-2003, and she served as president of the Women's Auxiliary in 1986.

Betty was a devout catholic and faithful servant of Christ volunteering in different capacities at St. Paul Catholic Church where she was a charter member. Betty had a generous heart and will be remembered for the love and compassion she had for others in her community, her generosity to the less fortunate and mostly the abounding unconditional love and dedication to her family.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis Barberi; her parents, William Oscar, Sr and Ruth Chavis; her siblings, Bill Chavis, Robert Chavis, Jerry Chavis and Barbara Hodges; her granddaughters, Wendy Wingard and Christina Johnson; her great granddaughter, Madison Jennings and her great grandson, Lukas Wingard.

She is survived by her children, Terri Wingard, Michael D. Barberi (Jaunita), Beverly D. Barberi, Patrick D. Barberi, Dana P. Barberi (Carol), Tina Wuest (Dennis), and Judith Lacey (James); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
