IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Odell
Boyd Craft
April 3, 1929 – April 19, 2020
Betty Odell Boyd Craft died peacefully April 19, 2020 after a brief decline at Arcadia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pensacola, FL.
She was born April 3, 1929 in Newell, AL, to Bertie Haynes Boyd and John Hoyt Boyd, the youngest of 5 children. After graduating from high school in Roanoke, AL, she entered nurses' training at Anniston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Anniston, AL. After receiving her RN, she studied psychiatric nursing in Massilon, OH, and worked as a nurse until 1959. She married Manuel Charles (Chuck) Craft in 1951 and has been a widow since 2008.
Betty is survived by her sons, Doug Craft and his wife Kathy, of Johnstown, CO, and Ken Craft and his wife Tami, also of Johnstown, CO and her grandsons; Forrest Craft, of Portland, OR, and Kyle Craft, of Loveland, CO.
Until very recently, Betty was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile, Shimron Temple Number 133, and served for over 25 years as Chaplain for the Temple, visiting sick and dying members and performing Nile funeral ceremonies. In recognition of her faithful long-term service to Temple members, she received a Silver Lifetime Membership award in 2005. She was an active member of the Temple Sewing Unit and also played organ for Temple events. Betty loved playing her keyboard every day and often sang her favorite hymns. She loved to tend her flower gardens, always decorating her house for Christmas and Easter, and was loved by the neighborhood children over several generations. She was always a helpful hand to neighbors and friends in need, and her first impulse was looking out for others. Betty will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, Chuck, at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Because of the pandemic, no memorial service is planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in her name to the Shriner's Childrens' Hospitals www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc/ways-to-give1
