IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Campodonica
Gorecki
January 7, 1928 – May 13, 2016
Betty was born in Pensacola, FL, the daughter of Nellie Frank Campodonica, of Pensacola, and Belfiore Campodonica, of Genoa, Italy. She attended St. Stephen Catholic School, which was founded in 1933 by her uncle, Fr. Manuel Campodonica. Betty went on to attend Pensacola Catholic High School, Class of 1945, where she played drums in the school band. After high school, she went to work at Western Union, where she retired after 40 years. In her teens and early 20's she was also a volunteer with her mother at the USO where she loved to dance and was an avid ping pong player. After retiring from Western Union, she found her life too quiet, so she went back out and worked part time to keep busy well into her 80's.
Betty loved to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports, especially when they got to Catholic High, though she wasn't always happy with the referees! She was a huge Notre Dame fan and never missed a televised game. She finally got to attend an actual game with her sons, courtesy of Pat and Patty Farrell, in South Bend, IN. She had the time of her life!
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; Jim and many beloved uncles, aunts and cousins.
Betty is survived by her sons, Eddie (Mary) Gorecki and James (Mary) Gorecki; her grandchildren, Alex (Kristi) Gorecki, and Christina (Johnny) Christine; her great grandchildren, Morgan Christine, Thomas Christine, Chloe Gorecki, and Sophie Gorecki; first cousin, Peggy Blair, second cousins, Buddy Merritt and Stephen Hemmer, and many other beloved cousins.
We are very grateful to those who shared in the care of our mother… the staff and nurses of Covenant Care, especially Summer Stuckey, Missie Porcillo, Pam Chandler, and "our middle-of- the-night" nurses, Laura Derby and Amanda Pedersen. You all have a very special gift. God continue to bless you and your work.
We also thank our parish family, and clergy of Little Flower, Deacon Castellano, Deacon Gordon, our Pastor, Fr. Eugene Casserly, and Bishop Martin Holley of Washington, DC, and all who visited and offered prayers and Masses for Mom during her illness. Your love and support were deeply appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel. You are invited to join the family for recitation of the Rosary at 5:30pm, followed by visitation until 7:30pm. Holley will be the main celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Flower Maintenance Fund, Mother Teresa Mission (of Little Flower), or Pensacola Catholic High School.
