IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jean
Kellar
September 17, 1923 – June 26, 2023
Betty Jean Kellar, 99, of Pensacola, FL went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 26, 2023 to be with her husband, Warren Edward (Ed) Kellar; daughter, Sandy Kellar Hughes; sister, Lecille McClure and many other relatives.
She was born in Saybrook, IL on September 17, 1923 to Oren and Myrtle Fawcett. Unfortunately, her mother passed away when she was three years old and she was raised by her grandmother, Cora Fawcett. She married Ed Kellar in Norfolk, VA on December 9, 1942 just before he was shipped out and served in the Navy during World War II. They moved to Pensacola, FL in 1955 and began their lives raising two children and making their way.
They lived in Gull Point and Betty loved to walk down to Escambia Bay with the other Betty, her friend and neighbor, Betty Moore, and their children and go fishing for that day's dinner. She was also a very gifted piano player who taught both her children not only to love to listen to music but to play the piano and other instruments.
Betty was the church secretary at Ferry Pass Methodist Church for eight years where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a talented artist and enjoyed painting and making decoupage with her husband to give to friends and family. She also ran her own business for over 10 years making and installing custom curtains for her customers' homes and businesses.
Betty volunteered for over thirty years with Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc, making and helping ship hundreds of thousands of braille bibles all around the world. She also volunteered with Friends of the Library for over 25 years to help raise funds to buy books and equipment for the local libraries.
Betty and Ed were members of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where she would stand at the entrance and greet all who entered. She was the sweetest and kindest person to everyone blessed with meeting and knowing her.
She leaves behind her son, Larry D. Kellar (Ellen) of Pensacola, FL; son in law, Charlie Hughes of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Kristen Bradshaw (Thom) of Wilmington, NC, Trey Hughes (Amanda) of Topsham, ME, Angela Smelcer (Hudson)of Cary, NC, Julie Wisniewski of Pensacola, FL and Phillip Johns (Giselle) of Pensacola, FL and twelve great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 10:00am until the funeral service to begin at 11:00am Monday, July 3, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
