Betty Martin Ricks 87, of Pensacola passed away Friday, February 13, 2009. Betty was born on February 27, 1921 in Trion, GA to Mr. & Mrs. Ralph D. Martin. She finished high school in May 1939, and worked in the Trion Mills as a sewing machine repair-person. Betty joined the Navy Waves in February 1944, and trained at Hunter College in New York. She was then assigned to Naval Hospital Pensacola, on May 15, 1944. She met Edward L. Ricks, Jr. and they were married on June 24, 1944 in Bay Minette, AL. They returned to Pensacola from McComb, MS in June 1946 after the war, and became very active with the Wesley Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Edward L. Ricks, Jr.; daughter Edith Ricks Lewis of Pensacola; son Edward L. Ricks, III of Picayune, MS; four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters Mary R. Martin Cook of Marietta, GA; Nancy A. Martin of Gulf Breeze and an adopted sister Marcia Saunders of Gulf Breeze. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:15am Thursday, February19, 2009 at Barrancas National Cemetery, with military honors. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
