Obituary

Beverly H. Bondurant, 83, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, with her devoted husband of 62 years by her side.

Beverly was born on July 5, 1940, in San Diego, CA, the daughter of Howard T. Hitchcock and Josephine P. Hitchcock. Her father was career Navy, so as a child she was blessed to experience and live in many places, both abroad and across the country. She graduated high school in Jacksonville, FL where she attended Jacksonville University (JU) majoring in Biology. While attending JU, she met the love of her life, Robert. Beverly and Robert married in 1961 and she became a Medical Technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and worked at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital where she also delivered their first child in 1962. The couple then moved to Gainesville, FL where Beverly had two more children and supported their new family while Robert attended medical school at the University of Florida.

When Robert received his military draft notice, Beverly was well-equipped to support their new and growing family, relocating several times in just five years, delivering her fourth child, while stationed in California. After Robert completed his service with the Navy, the couple decided to move back to Florida in 1973 and chose Gulf Breeze, FL as the place they would live the rest of their lives and raise their children.

To Beverly, nothing was as important as family. She devoted herself to raising her four children, transporting them to all manner of recreational activities, ensuring they performed academically, and volunteering to better the community in which they lived. Her home was always open to friends and the neighborhood children to come visit, bake cookies, or swim. She had a love of science and the outdoors that she shared with her husband and family.

Beverly enjoyed and was quite talented in many art mediums including watercolor, pastel, and oil painting and exhibited in local art shows. She was also quite gifted in embroidery and served as President of the Gulf Coast Stitchery Guild of the National Council of American Embroiderers, as Newsletter editor and taught local classes in various forms of stitchery techniques. She was a voracious reader of all topics, sharing a life-long commitment to learning and knowledge that she shared with her husband and helped instill in her children.

Beverly had a kind and nurturing soul and enhanced the lives of those who knew her. She loved the outdoors and was continually caring for injured animals that were brought to her from nearby woods by neighbors and friends. She tirelessly and compassionately cared for her mother-in-law and both of her parents as they aged and became ill. She will be missed tremendously.

Survivors include her brother, Steven T. Hitchcock of Jacksonville, FL: her four children, Robert C. Bondurant (Deborah) of Fairhope, AL, John H. Bondurant (Carla) of Pensacola, William M. Bondurant, and Mary K. Bondurant, both of Gulf Breeze; seven grandchildren, Caroline R. Bondurant, Robert Z. Bondurant, John A. Bondurant, Lauren H. Bondurant, Sophia N. Bondurant, William R. Bondurant, and Michael J. Bondurant; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members with whom she enjoyed spending time in her youth and at family gatherings.

A Memorial Service to honor both Beverly and her husband, Robert will be held at 4:00pm July 15, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504.
