Obituary

Beverly Myers Byrd, age 76, was born August 18, 1942, in Starkville, MS and died August 26, 2018 at her home in Gulf Breeze, FL. Beverly graduated from Starkville High School as Class Valedictorian in 1960. Her education continued at Mississippi State University, graduating in 1964 and then going on to graduate in 1967 from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She spent 3 years active duty in the U.S. Army as a Physician and Major. Her medical Specialty was Rheumatology which she practiced in Gulfport, MS from 1978-1993 before moving to Hattiesburg, MS to practice from 1993 until her retirement in December 2010. She also served as the first Medical Director of the Sun Coast Rehabilitation Center in Gulfport, MS.

Upon retirement she moved to Gulf Breeze, FL and remained an active person as a member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church, participated in medical mission trips around the world and made a special effort of reaching out to widows. She was a member of the Fort Pickens Chapter of the D.A.R. and a leader in the McIlwain Women's Ministry. Beverly also served as president of the Gulf Coast Presbytery Women in the Church (PresWIC).

She will be greatly missed by her husband, daughter, grandchildren and the many to whom she reached out a caring hand.

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, M.W. and Julia Wood Myers. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ken Byrd of Gulf Breeze, FL; sister, Kathryn (Bill) Hamilton of Columbus, GA; daughter, Laura (Breck) Ladd of Columbus, MS; step-daughters, Terry (Kevin) Tupes of Dexter, OR, Sabrina (Jeremy) Chesnut of Springfield, OR; grandchildren, Andy Ladd, Caleb Ladd, and Julia Ladd of Columbus, MS, Kylee Tupes and Sarina Tupes of Dexter, OR, Sean Chesnut and Tyeler Chesnut of Springfield, OR; Nephew, Andrew (Cindy) Hamilton of Fallbrook, CA; and niece Jacqueline (Mark) Dingle of NYC, NY.

A memorial service will be at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 01, 2018 at McIlwain Presbyterian Church, 1220 E. Blount St., Pensacola, FL. In lieu of flowers donations in Beverly's name may be made to Missions Ministry of McIlwain Presbyterian Church.
