Obituary

Beverly Elizabeth Matsoukas, 90, a resident of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Beverly spent weekends on the family farm and helped at her Pop's Texaco service station on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with her husband, Nick Matsoukas, while he was a student at Georgia Tech, and were married for 45 years.

Beverly was a woman of deep faith. As a devout Catholic, she attended daily mass for over eight decades. Her spiritual journey included numerous pilgrimages and missions, and she found great joy in singing in the choirs of the parishes she belonged to. As an accomplished writer she was published throughout her life and as a successful Real Estate agent she paid for her family to travel around Europe.  She was involved in the community and led many initiatives including being the driving force with her local City Council in Texas to build a new care facility for the handicapped.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Matsoukas, brothers, Sam Smith and Robert Lewis Smith.

She was the beloved mother of five children, Robert Matsoukas of Gulf Breeze, Ed Matsoukas of Orange, TX, Tricia Ziemer of Melbourne, Australia, Thomas Matsoukas of Gulf Breeze, and Kathy Dawson (Arthur) of Broomfield, CO; grandchildren, Nikki Bourke, Kris Matsoukas of Gulf Breeze, FL, Mony Coleman of Atlanta, GA, JR Rash of Shreveport, LA, Tasha and Taz Ziemer of Melbourne, Australia and Wendy and Nicholas Dawson of Broomfield, CO; she also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held from 10am until a Funeral Mass begins at 11:00am Thursday, June 12, 2025, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 6464 Gulf Breeze Parkway with Father Alvaro Gonzalez officiating. The burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, following a reception beforehand.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Matsoukas, Edward Matsoukas, Thomas Matsoukas, Kristopher Matsoukas, Shane Bourke, JR Rash, Nicholas Dawson and Art Dawson.

Honorary pallbearers are Aiden Matsoukas and Baylor Matsoukas.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Navarre Gardens and to VITAS Hospice for making Beverly's life comfortable in her last days. If you would like to honor Beverly's memory, please consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul. God Bless - St. Vincent de Paul
