Obituary

Beverly Morgan Morrison, 89, passed away after a brief illness Monday, November 16, 2015 in Pensacola, FL. Beverly-known as "B" to her family-spent her life teaching others both inside and outside of the classroom. She inspired this same love of teaching in her own daughter and reveled in every educational accomplishment of each of her family members. Earning a degree or other accomplishment was the surest way to make her proud. Born in Molino, FL, on November 14, 1926 she was from a family of educators. Her mother, Helen Baumeister Morgan, and her brother, John Elvis Morgan spent their careers in the classroom and administration. B, her mother and her brother all earned their college degrees in education from Florida State University within several months of each other. B spent more than 30 years teaching fourth grade students in Escambia County public schools, including Warrington, Detroit Boulevard, Holm and Hallmark Elementary. She and her husband Bob married in the Santa Rosa County Courthouse in 1945, on one of his visits home during World War II. Together they raised two children, Suzanne and Paul, and loved taking them fishing and camping when they were young. They were members of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Pensacola, FL, and very active in the community through several organizations including the Krewe of Aphrodite and Fiesta Frolickers. B retired from teaching in the mid-1980s, but never stopped teaching. Her instruction continued at home as she taught her granddaughters to appreciate family history through stories about her own grandmother, whom she adored. Perhaps her largest legacy will be in the cooking lessons she held for her granddaughters in her Pensacola kitchen: gumbo, chicken and dumplings (from scratch), mayhaw jelly, homemade biscuits, gingerbread cookies and fruitcake cookies. She knew each of her family members' favorite dish and made sure she had some on hand for visits. She is preceded in death by her son, Paul James Morrison. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" James Morrison of Monroeville, AL; a daughter, Suzanne Morrison Davis (Jimmy) of Monroeville, AL; one brother, John "Sonny" Elvis Morgan of Montgomery, AL; two granddaughters, Rachel Davis Cone (David) of Tallahassee, FL, and Emilie Nan Davis Oglesby (Joseph) of Monroeville, AL; three great-grandchildren, Beverly Emmeline Cone, Eloise Nan Oglesby and James Hollis Oglesby. She is also survived by two nieces, The Rev. Nan Adams and Martha Morgan (Kim) of Montgomery, AL; a great niece, Morgan Elise Tredo (Greg) of Ormond Beach, FL, and many friends at The Meadows assisted living facility in Monroeville, AL. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Pamela Gibbs and staff at Monroe County Hospital, the second floor North tower staff at West Florida Hospital, and a special thanks to Gwen, Meghan, and Brent for their expertise and care. The family will receive visitors Friday, November 20, 2015 from 12:30-2:00pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola. Graveside services will follow at 3:00pm at the Morgan Cemetery on Highway 29 in Pine Barren, FL. The Rev. Nan Adams will officiate. Memorials may be sent to the Monroe County Health Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
