January 26, 1935 – May 26, 2025
William "Bill" Baker, Sr., retired U. S. Navy Master Chief Boatswain, Vietnam veteran, former NJROTC instructor in Pensacola, FL and St. Francisville, LA, and dearly loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died in Pensacola on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025.
Bill was born on January 26, 1935, in Lowell, MA, Bill enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the age of 17. He was soon stationed on the USS Caloosahatchee, the first of his many shipboard assignments. In 1956, he met and married Eileen McMahon in London, England. Bill's 30-year naval career included assignments aboard the USS Vermillion, USS Westchester County, USS Albany, and naval bases both in the U. S. and overseas.
Bill is predeceased by his cherished wife of sixty years, Eileen; his brother, Gene; and his sisters, Barbara, Eleanor, and Claire.
Bill leaves behind his daughter, Valerie M. Fazel, who resides in Arizona; and his devoted sons, William "Bill" T. Baker, Jr. and David D. Baker, both Pensacola residents. Those who will also miss him include daughter-in-law, Karen Baker and son-in-law, Abbas Fazel; his granddaughters, Nadia and Natasha Fazel, Heather Ramirez, Kimberley Miller, and Sarah Baker; his grandsons, Aaron Fazel and William T. Baker, III; and his four great-grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly by relatives Lisa Young Baker, Debbie and Dick Stuart, and his many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am until a Funeral Service begins at 10:00am Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Chuck Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
