Obituary

William Roberts (Bill) Eubanks passed away peacefully in Pensacola, FL on Wednesday May 31, 2023.

Bill was born December 7, 1943, in Carrollton, AL. He attended high school in Carrollton and earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Alabama. He later earned a M.Ed. in Supervision and Administration at the University of West Florida. Bill worked for the Escambia County School District for over 30 years. He taught science at Workman and Ferry Pass Middle Schools, then spent the latter half of his career as part of a team of teachers who designed the integrated curriculum magnet school program at Brown Barge Middle School, until his retirement in 2005.

Bill inspired many generations of students with a love of learning and the scientific method, with his motto that "Learning can and should be fun." He led his students to success at district, state, and international science fairs, teaching many future scientists and educators. He was a member of the Five Flags Amateur Radio Association and lifelong ham radio operator, talking to people around the globe with the call sign WB4ORN. As sponsor of the Brown Barge Radio Club, he helped many students explore the world of amateur radio and attain their ham radio licenses. Bill was an avid participant and supporter of the cultural and educational exchange with Pensacola's sister cities of Hagiwara/Gero, Japan for over 35 years. Bill and Lil enjoyed camping from coast to coast around the United States in their RV and traveling the world from Japan to Peru and all over Europe. Bill loved the devotion of his English Springer Spaniels, Lady and Lindy and was a huge Alabama football fan. His other hobbies included backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, building and flying radio control airplanes, running his own amateur photography business, collecting junk, and spending many happy summers at Skyland Camp for Girls in Clyde, North Carolina, where he proved that he really could fix anything!

Bill was predeceased by his parents, John T. and Neda Eubanks, and his brother, Dr. John L. Eubanks.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lilly Belle (Lil) Eubanks; daughters, Sara Clarke (Dr. Al Clarke) and Leigh Anne Eubanks (Spencer Davis); as well as grandchildren, Emma Charlotte and Eli Roberts Clarke; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He had a big heart and was always adopting new family members, including his daughters by choice Dianna Fischer and Hiroko Kawano.

A celebration of life is planned for Monday July 24th at the Pensacola Improv Event Center (375 North Pace Boulevard) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  We invite friends, family, colleagues, and students to join us for Bill's "Sayonara Party."

Special thanks go to caregivers from Home Instead, the Council on Aging Retreat, and the Memory Care Unit at Summer Vista. The family also appreciates the care of the nurses and doctors of the ICU and the Covenant Care Hospice Unit at Sacred Heart.
