Obituary

Billie Lee Keyes, 76, of Pace, FL passed peacefully on to eternal glory after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 5:10pm while in the care of Covenant Care Hospice in Pensacola, FL.

Known affectionately as "Ms. Billie" or "Grandmom", Billie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, an accomplished party planner and hostess, an avid homemaker, a connoisseur of holiday decorating and, at times, a quite amusing and comical Southern Lady.

Billie Lee was born in Jackson, MS on March 12, 1945, to Mr. and Mrs. William Curtis Horne, Jr. and graduated from Provine High School in 1963 where she was a most beautiful, popular, talented, and well-loved classmate. She was a National Champion Majorette her Junior and Senior year and was chosen to perform in Cuba for Fidel Castro. Billie participated in the drama department and was chosen as a Class Beauty. Being as gorgeous as she was, it was only fitting that Billie went to work at McRae's Department Store where she was Assistant Buyer for Cosmetics and an Estee Lauder and Germaine Monteil representative. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Keyes, and the two of them just recently celebrated their Fiftieth Anniversary on November 5th. However, her most noteworthy accomplishment was being a homemaker and raising her two daughters, Tammy and Ashley. To her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren she was "Grandmom", and they caused her face to light up with pure joy. Family and friends were the heart and soul of Ms. Billie. She loved to cook, entertain, and was active in numerous organizations. She served as President of the Parent Teacher Organization at A.K. Suter Elementary School, served on the Women's Board of Directors for Children's Hospital and served on the board of the Krewe of Aphrodite. Billie was elected to the courts of both the Krewe of Lafitte and the Krewe of Aphrodite. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Pensacola, FL and, more recently, of Woodbine Methodist Church in Pace, FL.

Billie Lee is preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Lee Slocum Horne; her father, William Curtis Horne, Jr.; and her sister, Judith Loraine Horne Roberts.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Elton Keyes of Pace, FL; daughter, Tammy Keyes Hodgins of Madison, MS; daughter, Ashley Keyes Misleh (George) of Pace, FL; grandson, Ryan Hodgins (Jordan) of Mandeville, LA; grandson, Grant Hodgins (Hannah) of Lafayette, LA; grandson, Ross Hodgins (Julia) of Metairie, LA; granddaughter, Madison Misleh of Pace, FL; grandson, Max Misleh of Pace FL; great-granddaughter, Eloise Hodgins of Mandeville, LA; and great-grandson, Hampton Hodgins of Lafayette, LA.

Visitation will be held 12:00noon until a Memorial Service to begin at 12:30pm Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL, with Billie's long-time minister and beloved friend, Dr. Henry Roberts officiating.
