Billy Glenn Suttle, age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Traverse City, MI. A proud Marine, a dedicated engineer, and a devoted family man, Billy’s life was defined by a steady spirit and a journey that spanned from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes.
Born September 18, 1936, in Florala, AL, Billy grew up in Pensacola, FL, where he graduated from Pensacola High School in 1954. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Marine Corps. He served honorably from 1954 to 1957, a chapter that instilled in him the "Semper Fi" spirit he carried for the rest of his life.
After his military service, Billy pursued his education at Auburn University, where he earned his degree in Industrial Engineering. A proud Tiger, his engineering background led to a distinguished 28-year career with DuPont, primarily based in Charleston, SC. His colleagues and friends knew him as a man of precision, logic, and sharp wit.
Billy’s life found its center when he married Ann Rainey Love on November 18, 1967. Together, they built a life of shared values and deep affection, remaining side-by-side for 50 years until Ann’s passing in 2018.
Upon retirement, Billy returned to the Gulf Coast he loved, settling in Lillian, AL. He was a faithful member of Lillian United Methodist Church and an active and dedicated member of the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay, where he enjoyed the fellowship of his community and supporting local youth. He moved most recently to Traverse City, MI, to be near his family.
Survivors include his three children, Ashton Bennett Suttle, Elizabeth Ruby Suttle, and Joseph Eugene Suttle; two delightful daughters-in-law, Alexis Rickenbacker Suttle and Dana Mast Suttle. He was the proud grandfather of six, Judith Suttle, George Suttle, Cody Suttle, Hayden Suttle, Carson Suttle, and Trevor Suttle.
A visitation will be held from 11:30am-12:30pm Monday, April 13, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A funeral cortege will depart from Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 12:30pm for a graveside service that begins at 1:00pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, with military honors. Followed by a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Optimist Club of Lillian in honor of Billy’s commitment to his community and local youth.
