Mr. Robert Davis Bell of Pensacola, Florida died Saturday, March 15, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 7, 1935 at the old Sacred Heart Hospital on 12th Avenue in Pensacola, to L. Grey and Annie Lee Bell. He spent almost his whole life in Pensacola, raised I North Hill where he attended several elementary schools and graduated from the last class of Pensacola High School when it was located on North Palafox Street.
Bob spent his first college years at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee then moving to Florida State University, obtaining his Law Degree at University of Florida. After going into the Army, he spent 3 years serving in the Pentagon Judge Advocate General Corps, being there during the funeral of President John F. Kennedy. Coming home after his service, Bob went to work for the Law Firm of Fisher, Hepner and Hertz at the old Empire Building in downtown Pensacola. He lent his purposeful brain and diplomatic skills as a Trial Attorney, specializing in Medical Malpractice cases, as well as in service to many legal committees. He was also the first Pensacola attorney to become a Board Certified Mediator.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy Bell, and is the proud father of Robert D. Bell, Jr., Karen King Bell Quigley and Cynthia Suzanne Haan. He had 6 grandchildren; Max, Camille, and Luke Quigley, Bailey, Jacob and Owen Pritchard. Bob loved his brother Jack's children as his own and spent many happy hours with his sister-in-law, Ann Bell, nieces; Liz Noyes, Carrie Begley, Kathleen Kagan and nephew, John Bell. He had many wonderful friends and hunting buddies. Bill Pennewill was his best friend for 81 years and they enjoyed walking the Mall for the last few years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his cherished brother, Jack A. Bell, and the mother of his children, Judith K. Bell.
He spent many happy years at his hunt club Hit'n Miss in Alabama and enjoyed fishing and playing golf at his favorite course Pensacola Country Club. He and Joy spent the past 10 years since he retired from his law practice, traveling to and from Flathead Lake area in Montana, sojourning there for 6 months of the year, always coming back to Pensacola.
We have lost a kind, funny, warm and truly loving man whose wonderful intellect and humor has given us all the pleasure, friendship and guidance for many years.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated at Pensacola Humane Society, 5 N Q Street, Pensacola, FL 32505.
