IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bob
Chapman
October 5, 1959 – March 6, 2025
Robert Anthony "Bob" Chapman, Jr., 65, died on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Naples, FL.
Bob was born on October 5, 1959, in Chicago, IL, the second of five children. When he was nine, the family moved to Naples, FL, where he grew up and spent most of his years. Bob enlisted in the Navy where he worked in the print shop aboard the USS Enterprise, sailing as far away as the Philippines. While deployed abroad, he encountered his faith in a new way and grew to love Jesus.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Bob studied at the Houston Bible Institute where he met and married Suzy. They moved to El Salvador as missionaries and served for about a year before returning to his hometown in Naples, FL. Back in Naples, Bob worked as an owner and operator of a commercial cleaning business for decades, putting into action his entrepreneurial spirit, always looking to expand his knowledge and business ventures. He took great pride in his work and in that he was able to provide others with good jobs.
However, his greatest joy was his family: parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and especially his four children. Bob had the heart of a child, and all children seemed to instantly love him, and he loved them. He often joked and was silly. He loved to laugh and to sing (terribly off key). He couldn't keep a beat, but that never stopped him from trying. Every cloud in his life had a silver lining.
After suffering a terrible motorcycle accident, his health deteriorated. For over the last decade of his life, Bob was in severe pain but persevered with a cheerful demeanor. His joy and friendliness were contagious even in his poor health. He never met a stranger but met those who were suffering with compassion. Bob lived to walk his daughter down the aisle, to see his three sons grow into men, and to meet three of his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Betty.
He is survived by his children, Abby (Michael), Trey, John, and Wade; his grandchildren, Marianne, Jane, Lawrence, and Katharine; his siblings, Earl, Betty Lou, Susie, and Danny (Desire); and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all those he leaves behind.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11:30am Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Fr. Nicholas Schumm officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
