Obituary

It has pleased the Lord to call Lieutenant Willis Robert (Bob) Myers United States Navy, Retired, age 72, into the Church Triumphant on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024. Bob, a faithful servant of the Lord and pillar of Immanuel Lutheran Church - LCMS, departed this earthly life surrounded by his loving family and loyal pastor, secure in the promise of resurrection through Christ Jesus.

Born on October 31st, 1952, in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, Bob was the fifth child of six born to Willis D. and Myrtle Myers. After graduating from Conneaut Lake High School, he worked in the wheat harvest for a year before joining the Navy in 1974. His distinguished Naval career took him from Virginia and California, to Pensacola, Florida, where he met his wife, Cyndi. They were blessed with two children, Stephanie and Robert Myers. There he served with honor as the Crew Chief for the number 5 and number 7 jet, with the renowned U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, from 1980 to 1982. His meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to excellence reflected his understanding that all work is done to the glory of God.

Bob was clothed with the robe of Christ's righteousness in Holy Baptism. Throughout his life, he bore witness to his faith in both word and deed. Bob faithfully fulfilled his called vocations of husband, father, grandfather, brother, Confirmation teacher, Church Elder, mentor, and friend amongst many others. A champion of Higher Things, Bob was widely respected throughout the entire organization. Bob's faith was the cornerstone of his life. A man of great intelligence, Bob approached life's challenges with the calm assurance of one who knows his Redeemer lives.

When he was not taking care of his family, Bob found peace on the water, where he honed his craft of tying flies and fly fishing with them. An avid reader, Bob, would frequently mention that his library was full of books waiting on him to read them. Packages from Amazon with books seemed to always be mysteriously arriving. Bob enjoyed watching sports, history programs, and old western movies. A recent favorite pastime of his was to sit on his back porch, identify birdcalls, and feed the squirrels that frequented his backyard. Bob was known for his love of ice cream, black licorice jellybeans, candy corn, Snyder's pretzels, Dean's ranch dip, cookies, and dark beers. Each year, Bob looked forward to growing out his beard and dressing alongside Cyndi like Santa and Mrs. Claus to the delight of children. Bob never met a stranger.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cyndi; his children, Stephanie and Robert; his grandsons, Deantae and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Russell, with whom he now rejoices in the presence of our Lord.

A Service of Christian Burial, officiated by Reverend Randy Blankschaen, will be held on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church (24 W. Wright St., Pensacola FL 32501). Bob will be buried at Barrancas National Cemetery following the service.

A reception will be held after the burial at Immanuel.

Pallbearers will be Bob Voyles, Rick Schulz, Jeff Schneider, Mark Sullivan, Jim White, Steve Fielding, Lyle Myers, and Tom Maser.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/dbcc9385 ) to the campaign: "Ease Cyndi Myers' Burden After Bob's Passing".

We give thanks to God for the life and witness of Bob, confident that he now rests from his labors in the arms of his Savior. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" (Psalm 116:15). As we bid farewell to this faithful servant, we take comfort in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the dead, knowing that we will be reunited with him on the Last Day. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
