IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bob
Saxon
October 10, 1931 – August 16, 2023
Robert W. "Bob" Saxon, 91, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, and joined his beautiful bride in Glory.
Robert was born in Montgomery, AL, on October 10, 1931, and moved with his father, Henry Clyde Saxon and mother, Mettie Avis (Sumner) Saxon to Pensacola in 1946. Robert joined Richards Memorial Methodist Church where he met Jackie Calhoun. They were married on October 24, 1953. Jackie preceded him in death shortly after celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary together.
Robert graduated from Pensacola High School in 1950 and graduated from Pensacola Jr. College, where he was elected President of the class of 1952. He was also the starting forward on the Pensacola Jr. College state championship team in 1952. After graduation he was in the concrete business for 25 years. After retiring he worked for Enterprise and thoroughly enjoyed being with the other associates and serving the public. He never met a stranger and had the ability and personality to carry on a conversation with virtually anyone.
Robert was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. He was a founder and charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Pensacola, and at the time of his death, he was still an active member of St. Luke.
In addition to Jackie, Robert is preceded in death by their beloved son, Mark Saxon; parents; as well as his sisters, Tommie Lou Temple and Jean Maygarden.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Mike Saxon (Phyllis); He will be affectionately remembered as "PawPaw" by two granddaughters, Heather Woodard (Ben) and Hillary Page (Jonathan) and four great grandchildren, Caroline Woodard, Charlotte Woodard, Daniel Woodard and Madelyn Page. He is also survived by a sister, Dolly Melton, and many special nieces and nephews.
Pastors Dana Brady and Brian Calhoun will conduct the Celebration of Life on Monday, August 21, 2023, at St. Luke United Methodist. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 AM and the service will follow at 11:00 AM. The pallbearers will be Jerry Maygarden, Randy Maygarden, Richard Calhoun, Ben Woodard, Jonathan Page, Larry Adams, and Eric Gleaton.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Wesley Haven Villas for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to your favorite charity in Robert's memory.
