Captain Bobby Lloyd Stubbs, US Army Retired, 77, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. He was born June 3, 1939 in Sedalia, Missouri.

Captain Stubbs proudly served his country for over 20 years. Enlisting in the service at the age of 17, he served as a non-commissioned officer and drill sergeant. He was nominated and attended Officers Candidate School where he graduated with top honors. His deployment tours included Korea, Germany and Vietnam. As a result of his service in Viet Nam, he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart and was presented the Medal of Valor from the President of South Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Captain Stubbs served as a Deputy Sheriff and Jailer for the Polk County Sheriff's Department in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his first love and wife of 38 years, Nancy L. Stubbs; his parents, Frances Stubbs, Lloyd Gatewood and William Stubbs; brothers, Larry Stubbs, David Gatewood and Donny Gatewood.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Kirk-Stubbs; his children, Charlene Powell (Mike), Vivian McClelland (Bruce), Bobby Stubbs (Ami), Tammy Brentano-Daniel (Dave) and 2 step-children; Sam Kirk and Amanda Kirk-Pennington (Billy Ray); sister, Iris Cunningham; grandchildren, Jeremy McClelland (Stacy), Amber Powell, Matthew Stubbs, Bryan Larson (Laura), Adam Stubbs (Holly), Joshua McClelland (Nicole), Victoria McDaniel (Joshua), Alexandria Stubbs and Alexia Stubbs and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola on Saturday May 13, 2017 from 10:00am until 12:00pm (noon). Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm, also at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

He will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri at a later date.
