Obituary

Bonnie Mae Henke passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday March 8, 2017.

Born March 19, 1928 the daughter of Cleveland "Red" Robison and Clara Boyd in a company house on Creighton road that belonged to the Pensacola Tar and Turpentine Co where her father worked. She is one of the last of the original members of what was the small industrial community of Gull Point. In 1945 she met a young sailor from New Jersey and married Milton Henke in October of that year to be his wife for 57 years. Her husband, her two brothers, Tom and Cleve, her sister Clara and two grandsons, Brett and Brad have all gone before her. A child of the great depression, she lost her mother when she was a child and her father when she was a young mother herself with a husband somewhere in the Pacific. She possessed an inner strength that was truly amazing and enabled her to face any challenge with calm assurance and determination. The only time I can remember my mother being angry was when she felt one of her children had been wronged or threatened. She then became a force to be reckoned with. As her health declined and she became very frail, she asked if perhaps God had not left her too long on this earth. My answer: Mom, you have been a caregiver for family and friends all your life and now God is using you to teach us how to be caregivers. She did not ask again. Quiet by nature and humble in spirit she accepted life as it came to her and thanked God for His many blessings and the strength to endure hard and trying times. A life-long member of Gull Point (Spanish Trail) Baptist Church, it was her love of Jesus and faith in the love and mercy of an all powerful God that helped her through the loss of her friends and family members.

She is survived by her children, Milton "Butch" Henke (Janice), Patricia "Pat" Price, and Linda Sue Roodhouse (Mark); her grandsons, George "Bubba" Henke (Debbie), Charlie Henke (Ashley), Michael "Mike" Henke (Mary Kaye), and Kristopher "Kris" Henke; her only granddaughter, Amanda Roodhouse; her great-granddaughters, Mercedes and Maya Henke; as well as her great grandsons, Gavin, Malcolm, Warren and Ty Henke.

We want to give a special thank you to all the wonderful people of Covenant Care Hospice for the love, tenderness and respect given to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
