James "Brooks" Champlin, age 72, of Pensacola passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Brooks was born in Ft. Jackson, SC while his dad was called up during the Korean War, and was raised in Pensacola, FL. Once he graduated from Pensacola High in 1969, he and his brothers headed north to the University of the South, in Sewanee, TN, where years later he served as a Trustee and was on the Board of Regents. After college, Brooks entered the finance world as a stockbroker, which was his true passion and the career he would have for the rest of his working days. Starting in Little Rock, AR, followed by Mobile, AL for a period, he settled back "home" in Pensacola where he would spend the rest of his life. Throughout his adult life, Brooks was an avid golfer, who adored playing with his father-in-law, Pat Blanos. Along with golf, he enjoyed traveling all around the world and country with friends and family. During his time in Pensacola, Brooks was a member of various organizations such as, the Fiesta of Five Flags, Rebellaires, Rotary Club, and the Order of Tristan.
Brooks is preceded in death by parents, William G. "Bill" Champlin and Catherine Ryan "Kitty" Champlin.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Katherine Blanos Champlin; brothers, Gardiner and Ryan Champlin; children, Hamilton, Kristin, Shannon, and William; along with four grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.
A private family service will be held October 21, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.
