Obituary

Bernard Edward "Butch" Crooke, went to be with his LORD at the age of 83, on May 23, 2021. Butch was born on August 20, 1937 in Pensacola, FL to Bob and Clemetine Crooke and graduated from Pensacola High School and received his AA from Pensacola Junior College. He served his country in the Army and reserves. While working at the Pensacola News Journal, Butch started Gulf Coast Traffic Engineers, Inc. which is still 56 years later, a successful road construction company. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf but loved working in his yard.

Butch was "Poppy" to everyone who knew him. Poppy was known for spoiling his "grand babies" with love, attention and lots of candy and sweets. Whether it was riding around on his golf cart, camping in the Smokies, playing in his train room, or spending the day at his beach house, Poppy's love for them was always present. He taught all of his grandchildren the importance of faith and giving back to the community. His joyful spirit was infectious to all who knew him and he could bring a smile to anyone's face. Most importantly, his biggest concern in life was making sure that everyone around him was okay. His unique since of humor, daily devotional emails, love of children and selflessness will be greatly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Richard, William, and sister Betty Goodson (Tommy).

He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Norma Sims Crooke; two admiring sons, Christopher Crooke (Rachel) and Blair Crooke (Shaner); six granddaughters, Kylie Benge (Brian), Dr. Sarah Crooke, Gracie Crooke, Ansley Green (Jonathon), Megan Crooke, Emma Crooke; three great grandchildren, Adalynne and George Benge, and Jonathon Green III; brothers Charlie, Tommy (Bonnie), George (Glenda); sister, Diane Manning (Larry); sister in-laws, Janie and Barbara.

The Memorial Service will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd. followed by a celebration of his life in the Parlor.
