Carl D. Burns, age 94, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in Pensacola.

Carl was born February 16, 1928 in Hickory, NC to D. Reuben and Alma Burns. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and was part of Task Force Williwaw in the Aleutian Islands, fostering a lifelong dislike of cold weather. Upon discharge, he returned to Hickory and earned a business degree from Lenoir Rhyne College.

Carl was hired by Crawford and Company to work in their Pensacola office. He married Bobbie Johnson Schilling in 1958. Their two daughters, Becky and Margaret, were both born in Pensacola. After serving as assistant manager of the Terre Haute, IN office, he opened the Peoria, IL branch office, serving as manager until his retirement.

As planned from the moment they were transferred from Florida, Carl and Bobbie returned to Pensacola after retiring. He was able to fish as often as he wanted and, more importantly, garden year-round. He was an active volunteer for many years, working on gardening projects for Historic Pensacola Village and Arc Gateway. He was forced to curtail those activities due to dementia.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Margaret Burns; his parents; and sister, Faye B. Eagles. He is survived by his daughter, Becky Burns, of Pensacola. Services will be private.
