Carl was born in Pensacola on March 4, 1959. He was the fifth of six children born to Dr. Leonard Franklin "Bud" Hattaway and his wife, Clara Smith Hattaway, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Melissa Shands, her husband, Nat, and their daughter, Natalie; his brother, Bud Hattaway, his wife, Sharon, and their children, Roseanne Green, her husband, Brooks and their children, Cadence and Claire, Elizabeth Price and her husband, Taylor, Laura Hattaway, Sarah Sizemore and her husband, Jake, and L. Franklin Hattaway, III; his sister, Ann Hattaway and her children, Vangelis and Eleni; his brother, John Hattaway, his wife, Jackie and their children, Caitlin, Krista, Courtney and Logan; his brother, Billy, his wife, Jodi and their children, Shawn, Nikki and Will.

Carl earned certification in Landscaping and Floriculture from George Stone Vocational Center after completing high school in Pensacola. He worked his professional life in this field; he loved plants and animals and loved to help people with their gardening. Carl was a most special individual with a heart of gold. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Pensacola. He will be missed by all of us whose lives were fortunate to be touched by his. He had many close friends who loved him dearly and we will all remember his kind and generous soul.

Memorial Service will be held 4:00pm Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Pensacola with a reception and meal in his honor following in the Wright Place.
