Obituary

Carmon Ersel Grace, 90, of Pensacola passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015.

Carmon was born May 30, 1925 in Megargel, AL and raised in Burnt Corn, AL. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. Carmon was a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite Temple. He graduated from Troy State University with a Bachelors degree in Education and taught school in Sneads, FL until he began his 38 year career as a locomotive engineer with the L & N Railroad. In addition, he was a professionally licensed property, casualty and life insurance agent. After retirement from the railroad, he enjoyed a successful career in real-estate and property development with his best friend, Bobby Murphy, of Pace, FL. Carmon's hobbies included fishing and hunting with his son, Jim and friends at "Carmon's Landing" in Escambia County, AL. As she was growing up Carmon lovingly referred to his daughter, Sally as "Puddin" and later would refer to her as "the SUP," (supervisor). Carmon's smile was contagious, especially when around family members and his beloved wife, Eleanor with whom no greater love could be shared. His church family at Gadsden Street United Methodist Church provided the foundation of his daily life and he cherished his longtime membership.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Whittle and Carrie Idell Grace; one brother and two sisters; as well as his grandson, Evan Carmon Grace.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor; son, Jim Grace (Dawn) of Milton, FL; Sally Coe (Jimmy) of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Erica Niedermayer (Alex) of Pensacola, Mansfield Coe of Pensacola, Eleanor Coe of Washington, DC, Erin Grace of Pensacola, Jacob Lintner of Milton, FL; a great-granddaughter, Isla Grace Niedermayer; as well as a sister, LaNelle Wilson of Mobile, AL.
