Obituary

Carol L. Carmichael, age 85, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

Born in San Diego to Cdr. Morris Schoenberg and wife Crystal, Carol grew up in cities all over the country as duty stations changed. Finally stationed in The Territory of Guam, she graduated high school and met her future husband Edward Lee Carmichael, they married on December 20, 1953.   They settled in Pensacola and raised their nine children.   Carol was an honors graduate at Pensacola Junior College and the University of West Florida working in careers primarily dedicated to enhancing the lives of children as a special education teacher in Escambia County, with ARC, and until she retired, a Foster Care Counselor with DCFS.

She joined Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church many years ago and cherished the fellowship and friends made as an active member of the church.  A Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, member of the Life Group Bible Study and a shrewd player in the Thursday Card Group.   She also played a mean game of cards weekly at Bayview with her many friends. She took day trips with the Church Senior Adults to visit museums and cultural events throughout the southeast.

Her true mission in life was her family; guiding them, pushing, encouraging and loving them.  She never missed an occasion to write a card, give a gift, or take children's or grandchildren's pictures at every opportunity.  Carol's love and compassion for her family and others never faltered despite personal sacrifice and burden. Her life was in her greatest accomplishments; family, faith and friends.

Outside of Church, Carol was a voracious reader, enjoyed crafts and crosswords, knitting and was a talented artist…..she enjoyed her card games with her children and grandchildren and was never shy or humble when she won.

Preceded in death by father Morris Schoenberg, mother Crystal (Henry) Schoenberg, special cousins Nita Hollowell, Jay Henry, in-laws Mac and Mary Carmichael as well as many friends.Survived by Daughters; Lynne (Jay) Butcher, Sally (Chris) Kelley of Pensacola and Carolyn (Mike) Bass of Brandon, FL. Sons; Lee (Georgia) Carmichael of Marshfield, MO., Gil (Kathy) Carmichael, Joe (Kim) Carmichael, Phillip Carmichael, Tom (Deborah) Carmichael all from Pensacola and Keith (Jamie) Carmichael of Orlando, FL.
