Carol Sue Haley Rankin, age 84, of Pensacola, stepped into heaven on Saturday, January 18, 2024.

Carol was born in Metropolis, IL, to Curt and Sarah Haley. After graduating from Metropolis High School, Carol attended Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, TN, graduating as a Registered Nurse. While working as a nurse, Carol met her loving husband of 63 years, Marion Rankin. Due to the strict rules of Baptist School of Nursing, Carol and Marion had to wait one and a half years to get married. Marion was already a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy when they married, and Carol loved being a Navy wife. They lived all over the southeast United States as well as Rota, Spain and Lakenheath, England. Carol was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she made several dear friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Linda Nurkiewicz and her husband, Tom.

Survivors include her husband, Marion; one daughter, Susan Sotebeer, and her husband, Eric; two grandchildren, Christian and Gretchen Sotebeer; one son, Stephen, and his wife Beth; one sister, Maryanne Steele, and her husband, Jim; one brother, Charles Haley, and his wife, Patty; along with four nephews and three nieces.

Visitation will be held from 11:30am until a Funeral Service begins at 12:30pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel, with Dr. David Snyder officiating. Committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
