Obituary

After a brief illness, Clement Cary Reeves, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Cary was born on August 10, 1931 in Griffin, GA to Cary Reeves, Sr and Mildred Booth. He attended Georgia Tech, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in textile engineering. After 2 years in the Army, based in Aberdeen, MD, he joined the Chemstrand family in Pensacola, FL. After nearly 30 years with Monsanto, he retired in 1985.  In 1971, Cary moved to Gulf Breeze, FL, where he resided for the remainder of his life; it was home.

An avid outdoorsman, Cary spent many years hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to North Carolina with his best friend, Allen Mikul. Cary loved sailing and he sailed year round. Annually, he took trips with his close buddies. Once a month for years, he and his buddies gathered to play poker. And, he was very active in the Pensacola Civil War Roundtable.

Over the years, Cary was very active at his church, First Christian Church in Pensacola.  He had been the youth leader, a deacon, and an elder.

Serving his community, Cary was a volunteer fire fighter for Gulf Breeze for many years, until his health required him to retire his boots. For nearly 20 years, every Wednesday, Cary would be greeted with eager anticipation at the Ronald McDonald House at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola; he was famous for his red beans and rice. During the Christmas season, his friends eagerly awaited their gift of his peanut brittle.

In 1954, Cary married the love of his life, Sara Preston; they were married more than 67 years. From that union, they brought three daughters into the world.

He is predeceased by his parents, Cary and Mildred Reeves.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sara; daughters, Karen Rodriguez (Terry), Midgie Schluter (JB) and Katie Reeves; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; his sister, Alyce Reeves Bailey and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the funeral service begins at 3:00 pm at First Christian Church of Pensacola on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

A private burial will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery.
