IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cdr Albert
"Dan" Carey, Jr., Usn (Ret.)
August 2, 1941 – June 28, 2023
CDR Albert Daniel Carey, USN (Ret.) took his last flight at 0-300 hours on June 28, 2023. May he fly higher while kicking the tires and lighting the fires. Dan was born in Flushing Queens New York City on August 2, 1941. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his graduate degrees from the University of West Florida. He was a Naval Aviator who retired in 1986. During his time in the service, he was stationed in the US, Europe, Asia. and the Middle East. With his wife Andi and their kids, the family travelled extensively in Europe and Africa. He was notorious for flying low and fast, usually in a Jaguar, on narrow streets across the globe.
After retirement, he worked in financial services in Pensacola, FL where he led the World Trade Council in the 1990s. Andi and Dan continued to travel across the globe and to visit friends and family. He was a huge fan of the Fighting Irish and the NY Yankees, a globetrotter, a car collector, and a wine and Vernors aficionado. He was a competitive athlete in any sport gaining recognition as an enraged golfer who could be dangerous with a club. His love of sports extended to dance, and Andi and Dan would tear the rug or the dance floor at any given moment. He leaves his family gallons of wine, memorabilia, cars, and numerous tall tales.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert D. Carey Sr and Eileen Patterson Carey and his sister Deidre Carey.
He is survived by his wife and co-adventurer Andrea "Andi" Carey, his children Brian Carey (Sophelia Dale), Elaine Carey (Javier Alvarez Isasi), Erin Carey (Richard Butler), and his grandchildren Jeremy Draper Dale, Lucas Alvarez Carey, Xavier Dale, and Roardan Carey-Dale. He is also survived by his siblings Eileen Carey Brown, Sheila Connolly, Kevin Carey (Linda), Tim Carey (Connie), Ray Carey (Mary), Tom Carey (Kristin), Terry Carey (Renee), and his brother-in-law Gene Stofer, and twenty-one nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.
