IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecelia Christina
Looney
November 10, 1924 – May 11, 2020
Early on the morning of May 11th, 2020, Cecelia McCartney Looney passed peacefully in her sleep. She was a living example of love, understanding, and resilience. Born in 1924, she was the fifth daughter and sixth child of Alice and Hugh McCartney and grew up in Cresson, Pennsylvania where she learned at her mother's feet what it meant to be a strong woman.
As a young woman, she would go on to Washington D.C. where she worked during World War II. She and her sisters made their mark and fate brought Cecelia into the arms of Francis Looney in 1944. They married in 1946 and were married for 63 years. The marriage led to 6 children and a multitude of homes across the country, including Hawaii. In every home, she commanded the domestic front as her husband commanded the sea. She led with love and grace and everyone in her life knew they were always welcome.
Her 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren knew her as Nana, Granny, and Grandma Looney. Her home was a safe place for them all. She was the cook, the sleepover host, assistant teacher to imaginary schools, and could always be counted on for hugs. She only asked, you were never outside without shoes or in bed without socks.
The family left behind is comforted by the fact that she and Frank are together again. She is also welcomed home on Mother's Day weekend by her mother and her eldest son (Carl) as well as many sisters, brothers, and family members.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Debbie), Sheila, Steven (Connie), Brian (Kelly), and Christina (Bob), daughter-in-law Barbara; grandchildren, Erin, Shane, Melissa (children of Carl) Richard, Dawn (children of Paul) Colleen, Emily, Claire (daughters of Sheila) Christopher, Greg, Jason (sons of Steve) Rachel, and Kyle (children of Tina), as well as 4 great grand-children.
Any services and memorials will be postponed in this trying time for our nation and communities.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Alzheimer's Association
