"Charlie" Venable

Charles William "Charlie" Venable was born September 11, 1926 in Cedartown, GA. He grew up in Chattanooga, TN where he met and married the love of his life, Louise Whitfield Venable. He passed away peacefully at his home in Gulf Breeze, FL on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Fetzer of Hawaii and Linda Moody of Pensacola, FL; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Venable of Ringgold, GA and a sister, Mary Saffles of Stockbridge, GA.
Charles served on the USS Nevada in WWII. After the war, he joined the American Legion in Chattanooga, TN where he was elected to various posts, including District Commander, West Tennessee Vice-Commander and named Legionnaire of The Year for his service to the post and community. He was President and Business Manager of the state champion Drum and Bugle Corps on which he was a playing member.
Charles retired from Union '76 Oil Company as a district manager after 34 years. His dedication to both church and community service earned him numerous leadership positions and honors. He enjoyed serving and making a difference. In retirement, he enjoyed boating and working for Gulf Power, where he was in charge of security.
Family was most important to Charles. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, his siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Lane Funeral Home, South Crest Chapel, 833 Chickamauga Ave., Rossville, GA 30741 on Thursday, March 17, 2016 followed by a graveside service and military honors at Tennessee/Georgia Memorial Park, also in Rossville, GA.
